Kwplucket #89: The Founder (2016)

2020.09.26 20:45 kwpluckett Kwplucket #89: The Founder (2016)

IMDB
Challenge started: 5/18/2020 Date Watched: 9/24/20 Runtime: 1h55m Rating: PG-13 Watched on: Netflix Rotten Tomatoes: 80 Imdb rating: 7.2 Genre: Drama/History Directed by: John Lee Hancock
Google synopsis:
The true story of how Ray Kroc (Michael Keaton), a struggling salesman from Illinois, met Mac (John Carroll Lynch) and Dick McDonald (Nick Offerman), who were running a burger operation in 1950s Southern California. Kroc was impressed by the brothers' speedy system of making the food and saw franchise potential. Kroc soon maneuvers himself into a position to be able to pull the company from the brothers and create a multi-billion dollar empire.
My thoughts:
Holy cow, it's movie like this that make me want to stop buying things, sell all my shit and live off the grid like some hermit. If you want to know how ruthless business can be, how vicious entrepreneurial types can be and how this success story could be yours, you should watch The Founder.
This movie is done pretty well and the story is really fascinating. Ray Kroc is certainly an interesting character, and Michael Keaton does a good job portraying all his eccentric qualities.
I felt the acting was just mediocre overall. Nick Offerman was ok, John Caroll Lynch was ok, and Laura Dern was just...ok.
The dialog seemed forced, which was interesting because it appears much of the dialog is directly quoted from 'real life'. Maybe they tried too hard for dramatic authenticity?
Overall this is a really fascinating glimpse into the rise of one of the most profitable companies in the world. It highlights the systems, and the personalities that brought it to fruition.
In the end it never rises to be a great movie, but satisfies the itch to watch a contemporary historical narrative.
I'll give the Founder a 3/5.

2020.09.26 04:11 elJeRkPenguin Moving on from my ASUS ROG G20CB, ready to build a PC!

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
Extra info or particulars:
I would just like a good PC that will be good for the coming years, definitely thinking of not getting the PS5 and just upgrading from the ASUS ROG G20 since it's not as upgradeable as i'd like it to be. I've always wanted to build a PC and be able to upgrade whenever needed.
Also, if the budget I have now can't substantially upgrade from what I have now, wouldn't mind keeping the GPU and CPU I have for a while.
Thanks in advance everyone!!

2020.09.23 23:39 tandc22 Three dates in and ... silence. How should I respond?

Hi! I live in Southern California And I have had three dates with a guy who I really like. I’m 36F and he is 28. We finally took off our masks and kissed on the last date, but unfortunately I opened my big mouth and over shared a lot of personal information about myself. I’m pretty sure I scared him off because he hasn’t texted me since the date over a week ago. I am really big on closing the communication loop, and dating with dignity. Is there some thing that I could text him that would kind of let him know that I’m still interested but also OK if he wanted to move on? Thank you!

2020.09.23 23:17 meli1995 Recommendations for some authentic Texas cities that would be good for a single woman to move to?

I was raised in Brooklyn, New York and although I love it and it will always be home I moved away to experience something different. Big big city life wasn't for me. I just got a job here in LA, California and a few months in I can see it just does not feel like it is for me, so definitely not interested in Austin. I know it has only been a few months and there is still so much to see as California is a hugeeee state but I have been drawn to the South for quite some time now. I am a 25 year old woman who can get a job pretty much anywhere (I am a speech pathologist) and am currently here in California as a traveling agent, so I can easily relocate jobs by next summer.
I am in no way trying to bring outside influence to Texas (not even my veganism lol). I have always enjoyed country music, rural areas, southern men and their hospitality, and I identify as a conservative. Eventually I'd like to settle down with someone and buy a house and California and New York is not it with their insane real estate prices. I've realized dating in LA is also just impossible, people are always looking at the next person. I just want a nice southern man to have a family with one day. Texas just sounds like the dream.

Any recommendations?

2020.09.22 18:01 flyinmacaronimonster Absentee Ballots and Mail-In Ballots are not the Same: A Deep Dive into the Bizarre Rabbit Hole that is Voting in Missouri (Columbia-specific)

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!!! "MAIL-IN" (NOT "ABSENTEE" BUT "MAIL-IN") BALLOTS CAN** ONLY BE MAILED BACK
AS WELL MISSOURI IS ONE OF FOUR STATES THAT DO NOT ALLOW YOU TO OFFICIALLY TRACK YOUR BALLOT IN A WAY THAT IS EASY TO DO.
https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-track-the-status-of-your-mail-in-ballot-2020-9
THIS MEANS IF YOU REQUEST A "MAIL-IN" AGAIN NOT AN "ABSENTEE" BALLOT, YOU WILL NOT ONLY BE REQUIRED TO MAIL IT BACK, BUT YOU WILL HAVE NO EASY OR SIMPLE WAY TO TRACK YOUR BALLOT, ASIDE FROM CALLING OR EMAILING YOUR ELECTION CLERK, WHICH, IF THEY ARE BUSY, MAY BE DIFFICULT OR CUMBERSOME.
TWO SPECIAL NOTES BEFORE WE BEGIN:
(1) IF YOU HAVE ALREADY REQUESTED AND/OR RECEIVED A "MAIL-IN BALLOT" (NOT AN "A" BALLOT, BUT RATHER A "MAIL-IN" BALLOT) YOU SHOULD STRONGLY CONSIDER NOT SENDING IT IN; INSTEAD, I WOULD RECOMMEND GOING TO A POLLING PLACE, VOIDING THE MAIL-IN BALLOT AT THE POLLING PLACE, AND THEN SUBSEQUENTLY VOTING IN-PERSON.
(2) AS WELL, IF YOU ARE VOTING "ABSENTEE" (NOT "MAIL-IN" BUT "ABSENTEE") DUE TO BEING AT A HIGHER-THAN-NORMAL-RISK FOR COVID-19, AND/OR IF YOU ARE PERMANENTLY DISABLED YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE YOUR BALLOT NOTARIZED. [see SB-631 and the "ASHCROFT ARTICLE" at the bottom of the page]. I would like to add that you will need to notarize your absentee ballot if you are requesting an absentee ballot for a reason other than than these reasons.
IN-PERSON ABSENTEE VOTING AND BALLOT DROP-OFF IN BOONE COUNTY (EXCUSE MAY BE REQUIRED; SEE OPTION #3 (voting "in-person absentee) BELOW FOR MORE DTAILS)
As a reminder, you will need to be able to show a valid form of voter ID when voting in person. ID can be either a photo ID (like your driver's license) or a non-photo ID (like a bank statement or a utility bill):
https://www.sos.mo.gov/showit2vote
https://www.sos.mo.gov/CMSImages/ElectionGoVoteMissouri/AcceptableIDstoVote--01.17.2020.pdf
BOONE COUNTY
In-person absentee voting will be available at the Roger B. Wilson Boone County Government Center, 801 E Walnut St, Room 236, Columbia, MO 65201
Hours: 8am-5pm MON-FRI.
https://www.showmeboone.com/clerk/votebymailoptions.asp
In addition to the County Clerk's office, you can also vote absentee in-person at the "Ballot Bus", which can be found 10am-3pm at the following dates and locations (credit given to u/MsBuffy): October 3: Hickman High School parking lot October 10: Southern Boone Primary School parking lot October 17: Rock Bridge High School parking lot October 24: Centralia High School parking lot
IF YOU DO NOT LIVE IN BOONE COUNTY, CHECK OUT THE DIRECTORY OF COUNTY ELECTION OFFICIALS IN THE LIST OF LINKS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE.
Hey Missourians!
Today is the day that both absentee and mail-in ballots will be sent out to all registered voters who have requested one in Missouri.
Before I dive deep into the rabbit hole as mentioned in the title above, let's first get one thing out of the way: if you are not registered to vote, do so RIGHT NOW. You can register online, using the link below:
https://www.sos.mo.gov/elections/goVoteMissouri/register.aspx
The deadline for voter registration is the fourth Wednesday before Election Day, which in this case is Wednesday, October 7, so don't delay.
Now that you are registered to vote, we can dive right in.
IF YOU ARE NOT PLANNING TO VOTE WITH A MAIL-IN BALLOT OR ABSENTEE (EITHER BY-MAIL OR IN-PERSON BEFORE ELECTION DAY), AND JUST WANT TO VOTE IN-PERSON ON ELECTION DAY, SKIP TO THE VOTING IN-PERSON ON ELECTION DAY SECTON BELOW.
In Missouri there is no technically early voting per se, but there are 3 options for voting before Election Day:
(1) request a "mail-in" ballot to be mailed to you
(2) request an "absentee" ballot to be mailed to you
(3) go in-person (starting TODAY) and vote "in-person absentee"
BOTH MAIL-IN AND ABSENTEE BALLOTS NEED TO BE RETURNED BY 7:00pm ON ELECTION DAY.
OPTION #1 (requesting a mail-in ballot): This option is available to every registered voter in Missouri. HOWEVER, IT IS MY VIEW THAT, IF YOU HAVE ALREADY REQUESTED AND/OR RECEIVED A "MAIL-IN" BALLOT, THEN YOU SHOULD STRONGLY CONSIDER PUTTING IT ASIDE, AND INSTEAD, GO TO A POLLING LOCATION, VOID THE BALLOT, AND THEN JUST VOTE IN-PERSON.
There are FIVE key limitations that apply to "mail-in" ballots (that, by the way, do not apply to "absentee" ballots):
(1) YOU CANNOT DROP OFF YOUR BALLOT IN PERSON AND ARE REQUIRED TO MAIL IT BACK.
(2) YOU CANNOT USE A COMMON CARRIER (UPS/FEDEX) TO MAIL BACK YOUR BALLOT. YOU MUST SEND IT THROUGH THE U.S. MAIL ONLY, VIA THE USPS. [see the "ASHCROFT ARTICLE" in the list of links below]
(3) YOU CANNOT OFFICIALLY TRACK YOUR BALLOT IN A WAY THAT IS EASILY DONE (YOU HAVE TO CALL OR EMAIL YOUR ELECTION OFFICIAL), MAKING IT POTENTIALLY DIFFICULT OR CUMBERSOME TO KNOW IF YOUR BALLOT WAS RECEIVED ON TIME.
(4) ALL "MAIL-IN" BALLOTS REQUIRE A NOTARY SIGNATURE AS A WITNESS.
(5) YOU ALSO MAY NEED TO PAY A FEE TO HAVE IT NOTARIZED IF YOU CANNOT FIND A FREE OPTION.
It is because of all these limitations and inconveniences that you should strongly consider voiding your ballot at the polling place on Election Day, and just vote in-person, instead of mailing it back.
Points #1, #2 and #3 are limiting because there is no way to 100% guarantee that your ballot will get there on-time especially in light of possible mail delays.
Even if the mail wasn't necessarily slower than normal, there is still no way to 100% guarantee that your ballot will arrive on time to your County Election official's office, so having an option to at least hand-deliver your ballot is something that they should provide for "mail-in" ballots but don't. As well (per Point #2), it is limiting that there is no option to mail it via private courier, which would give voters an alternative to the USPS.
Points #4 and #5 are an additional inconvenience as you will have to go out of your way to have it notarized, and if you do not want to pay for the service, you will have to seek out a notary that will provide it for free.
AGAIN, I JUST WANT TO MAKE IT CRYSTAL CLEAR THAT NONE OF THESE INCONVENIENCES ARE APPLICABLE WITH "ABSENTEE" BALLOTS.
OPTION #2 (requesting an absentee ballot-by-mail):
This option is only available if you have a valid excuse:
Here is the full list of excuses:
  1. Absence on Election Day from the jurisdiction of the election authority in which such voter is registered to vote;
  2. Incapacity or confinement due to illness or physical disability, including a person who is primarily responsible for the physical care of a person who is incapacitated or confined due to illness or disability;
  3. Religious belief or practice;
  4. Employment as an election authority, as a member of an election authority, or by an election authority at a location other than such voter's polling place;
  5. Incarceration, provided all qualifications for voting are retained.
  6. Certified participation in the address confidentiality program established under sections 589.660 to 589.681 because of safety concerns.
  7. For an election that occurs during the year 2020, the voter has contracted or is in an at-risk category for contracting or transmitting severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (COVID-19).
Voters who are considered at-risk for contracting or transmitting COVID-19 are those who:
IF YOU ARE NOT AT HIGHER-THAN NORMAL RISK, OR ARE NOT TAKING CARE OF SOMEBODY WHO IS AT HIGHER THAN NORMAL RISK, YOU CANNOT APPLY FOR AN "ABSENTEE" BALLOT UNLESS YOU HAVE ANOTHER** VALID EXCUSE.
Like I have said before, with absentee ballots, none of the restrictions for "mail-in" ballots apply to those voting with an "absentee" ballot.
If you are voting with an absentee ballot-by-mail, you have the following options to send it back:
(1) Hand-deliver your ballot in-person to your County Election Official's office during office hours (SEE TOP OF THE PAGE)
(2) Have somebody who is "a relative of the voter who is within the second degree of consanguinity or affinity" return the ballot for them during office hours. NOTE: ONLY GIVE YOUR BALLOT TO SOMEBODY THAT YOU FULLY TRUST, EVEN IF YOU ARE RELATED TO THAT PERSON. IF IN DOUBT, DO NOT USE THIS OPTION.
(3) Use a private courier service (like UPS or FedEx) that has delivery documentation (SEE THE "ASHCROFT ARTICLE" IN THE LIST OF LINKS BELOW) to expressly deliver it to the County Election official's office. Keep in mind, your ballot needs to be received by 7:00pm on Election Day.
(4) Mail it back via U.S. Mail. Again, keep in mind that your ballot needs to be received by 7:00pm on Election Day.
YOU ALSO DON'T NEED TO HAVE IT NOTARIZED IF YOU ARE AT RISK-FOR COVID-19 [see the ASHCROFT ARTICLE AND SB-631]. As it is said in plain text: "Any person casting an absentee ballot for this reason [you are at higher-than-normal risk of contracting COVID-19] does not need to obtain notarization of his or her absentee ballot."
As you can tell voting with an "absentee ballot" is far easier than voting with a "mail-in" ballot, so I would not only recommend, but would also encourage this option if you are at higher-than-normal risk for contracting COVID-19 or have another valid excuse to vote absentee.
If you do get an absentee ballot, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY, fill out your ballot, and then MAKE SURE TO SIGN YOUR NAME IN THE CORRECT PLACE. Once you have done that, deliver it using one of the 4 options listed above (ranked in order).
OPTION #3 (voting "in-person absentee): If you narrowly qualify for any of the reasons listed above, you can also vote in-person absentee STARTING TODAY at your County Election Official's office [SEE TOP OF THE PAGE].
In certain counties and county equivalents, satellite absentee voting is available, starting around mid-October. I'm unsure if Boone, or any of the surrounding counties have this option.
As a reminder, you will need to be able to show a valid form of voter ID when voting in person. ID can be either a photo ID (like your driver's license) or a non-photo ID (like a bank statement or a utility bill):
https://www.sos.mo.gov/showit2vote
https://www.sos.mo.gov/CMSImages/ElectionGoVoteMissouri/AcceptableIDstoVote--01.17.2020.pdf
NOTE: From my understanding, the excuse requirement stands, HOWEVER, IF SOMEBODY COULD SPECIFICALLY AND CLEARLY COMMENT ON WHETHER OR NOT IN-PERSON "ABSENTEE" VOTING (NOT mail-in voting, NOT absentee voting-by-mail, but rather, specifically IN-PERSON "ABSENTEE" voting) WILL BE AVAILABLE TO ALL VOTERS, AND NOT JUST THOSE WITH AN EXCUSE, THAT WOULD BE EXTREMELY HELPFUL.
VOTING IN-PERSON ON ELECTION DAY
If you have not requested a mail-in or absentee ballot, and want to just vote in-person on Election Day, simply show up to the polls, present a valid form of ID (as listed in the links below), and vote.
As a reminder, a valid form of voter ID can be either a photo ID (like your driver's license) or a non-photo ID (like a bank statement or a utility bill):

2020.09.22 11:13 lucky_Angle339 I just want to vent about how much I dislike living in Beijing

Don't mind me, I just really want to vent, I'm from the US, but my heritage is Chinese so I speak Mandarin, I've been living in Beijing for 2 years now, originally moved here because I thought it'd be an interesting international management experience on my resume (work in corporate finance). But after 2 years, I absolutely feel deteriorated mentally and physically, fell into depression, gained weight, and seeing anything that reminds me of how much I don't like living in Beijing puts me in this angry and frustrated state of mind. Currently I'm applying for MBA to go back to the US, I thought about just straight up leaving and find a job back in the US but ultimately decided against it, because I really want to go to a good MBA and want to look consistent on my resume, plus recommenders from current bosses...etc. So cheers to being stuck in this hellhole.

  1. The traffic/crowds - just getting to work in the morning alone feels exhausting, the amount of traffic, crowds, the non walking friendly sidewalks with cars/bikes honking at your every step, how rude people are...omg, I used to live in southern california/orange county, I miss that every single day.
  2. Air quality - I'm convinced I'm gonna live a few years less by living in Beijing, I tried to bike to work to avoid traffic and put in some exercise, and I properly got sick with sore throat, sometimes I see people running on the street, idk how they do that.
  3. Lack of nature - being in a city that offers very little peace and quiet is so terrible for my mental health, I used to hike a lot along the coast of southern california, and in Beijing, it's so ugly and crowded everywhere, I stopped wanting to even go outside, I put on so much weight since being here, and the lack of convenient and good gyms (that's not super out of the way, since I work a stressful job) is not helping either.
  4. The work culture - bosses are your all hail king over here, whatever they say is always right and everyone just follows sheepishly, it's so ingrained in the culture. and people work crazy hours here with the 996 culture, with zero respect for personal space, we use wechat for work and i'm not kidding when i say i'm in 300+ wechat groups for work, having to respond quickly to all those chats 24/7 is killing me, i don't know how people can do anything besides work here, I can't wait to leave.
  5. Dating scene - I haven't dated so much but it doesn't feel like the Chinese men even look at me, unless they are super drunk. And the expat guys here...are either weird as hell, or some are nice and normal dudes but are usually chased by 100 local girls, and I don't want to join the competition.
My list can go on and on, but I guess these are my main ones, thanks for letting me vent.

2020.09.22 10:12 spacepatrolluluco I really have no idea where to meet nerds now that I'm out of college

I really love anime, but I'm pretty well versed in most other "nerdy" sub cultures. As much as I wish I could, it doesn't seem very fun dating a generic mild mannered guy without these hobbies or interests. I don't need exclusively the same interests, but some overlap would be fun.
I go to a lot of anime conventions, but I live in southern California so dating is honestly a lot harder here. I figured it would be easy to find someone to date here, but it's been years and it's hard finding someone that I would get along within a relationship. Being SUPER into anime conventions enough to become a regular ended up being sort of a red flag for dating.
I've tried dating apps, but obviously all the nerd themed dating apps are not a great place to be on. Even dating apps in general are hard to meet someone on, because everyone on there has always ended up not knowing what they wanted. I'm not saying dating apps are bad in general, but they just don't seem to work after a year and a half. I've tried dating on here before, but I got so nervous about feeling like talking was forced that it was hard to continue. I've also tried discord, but all the public ones are just teenagers or not active channels. I haven't been invited to any smaller ones.
I have dated guys who liked "nerdy" things but not necessarily anime in college, but it was easier because it was college.
I just feel like the person I want to date is probably sitting in their room most of the time and only goes out to be with their friends or specific events they're really not trying to meet anyone at. (obviously pre-pandemic) Even if the guy of my dreams is somehow at the same place as me, chances are we won't really be talking to strangers and looking to make connections.
I want to date someone whose nice to me/vice versa, has similar interests, a similar sense of humor (but I've even been willing to sacrifice that), similar career goals (not same job but similar goals, i.e. even just having a career in mind) and I can be physically compatible with. That really hasn't happened on any dates I've been on in the past few years.
Where do I find them? How do I meet them? Both in a non-pandemic world and/or how do I even meet them online?
How do I MEET people online enough to form a connection with them?
How do I join online communities?
How do I meet people when events happen again?
How do I meet people once the pandemic is over?

I keep posting about this on vent subreddits but I never really get any advice, only an inbox full of people.

2020.09.21 21:45 jasonguy22 Hey, could someone please view my situation from a third person perspective to help me figure out if I my situation is as bad as I think it is or if I have some kind of mental disorder?

Background: I turned 22 two months ago, im a white male, 5’9-5’10, im in my senior year of a pretty decent college now in southern california, I’m not the ugliest guy in the world but i would say im below average to average looks-wise, and I have been spiraling down a dark path mentally for the past couple of years and I don’t know how much longer I can take. The bulk of which stems from the fact that I can’t for the life of me manage to get into a relationship with a girl who I find attractive who also finds me attractive. I wasn’t worried about getting into a relationship in high school and thought college would be different (“4 YEARS of college? ill obviously get a girlfriend at SOME point i shouldn’t worry about it now”), but here I am. Over the past 3-4 years I have been crying nonstop because everything that college was supposed to be was right but that was for everyone around me and not for me for some reason like some kind of sick joke. I have always felt like there was something wrong with me growing up, its very difficult for me to socialize and meet new people (I feel like girls can sense that theres something off about me which makes me sad because i think im a pretty good guy) and quarantine has made me realize how pathetic and lonely my life is now and will be for the foreseeable future. Im finally at a breaking point and im tired of seeing the looks on girls faces when i try to approach them with a smile on mine, i can’t do it anymore. All of those around me are in or have had at least one if not several relationships and I can’t get it out of my head how wonderful it must feel to put your arms around a girl who also loves you, it’s killing me inside and I hate that I can’t figure out what is wrong with me.
Supplementary info:
-I have never been in a relationship despite being part of multiple social groups (member of football team, member of a fraternity, member of a club based on an interest of mine)
-I have never been loved by someone of the opposite sex besides my mom
-I’ve gone on 1 date with a girl freshman year and I thought it went well and we held hands at one point and i can’t even express into words how happy that made me, that was by far the happiest ive ever been in my life and i thought things were finally changing for me, but she ended up ghosting me after
-I feel like every day im getting massively behind on personal growth and confidence from my peers and i feel like im still stuck in high school
-Every time I realize how lonely I am and how pathetic it is that I’ve gone through so many social experiences without having a girl (which is a few times per day) i break down and cry, and every time I do that i then think about how pathetic it is that im a guy who cries literally every day and how sad that is (and why would a girl want to be with someone like that, like a vicious cycle) but i just can’t help it
-I have considered therapy but one I can’t afford it, and two I dont believe speaking to someone about my problems will resolve the underlying, concrete issue that would lead to me actually getting better
-I was planning on going out a lot this semesteyear to hopefully at least try something different but quarantine has closed everything down so i have no opportunities to change my situation. I even did some random approaches to girls i thought were cute on campus but i already mentioned what happened with those..
-I have tried a number of different dating apps, tindebumble/pof, and i bought gold/premium on those with no success
-Ive technically had sex 6 times with girls so its not like ive been completely devoid of that experience but they were either extremely unattractive or just very drunk i guess
-I had a chance to get into a relationship with two different girls but I wasn’t attracted to them and so it wouldn’t have been fair to them for me to put them in that situation
-I have a few close friends and they all have a bunch of experience with dating and it feels like the longer i go the more they think there’s something wrong with that guy
-I guess what im wondering is if anyone has been in a situation like mine and if you ever got out of it. Like does it get better? is it worth it? I just dont see a reason to keep going anymore
-If there’s anything else you would like to know about me that would help please dont hesitate to ask

2020.09.19 23:17 ML_Godzilla How often should I text back?

I'm a 28 year old straight male with a decent job, average looking, and located in southern California. I get a few matches each week on dating apps (Bumble, CMB,ect) but I rarely ever meet up with of these women in person.
I hate messaging on these apps in the first place and I usually enjoy calling over texting. I work a lot of hours at my job ( Between 50 and 90 hours each week) so I have little time to spend messaging during the week. What usually happens is I will try and setup a first date on a Saturday or Sunday and the girl will cancel the day of because "I didn't message her enough and didn't think I was interested".
I honestly don't have the attention span to dedicating to get to know someone over a dating app for weeks. Most of the profiles are close to empty and I always prefer verbal conversation. If I had gone on a few dates in person and I felt like there was a connection I would be fine with texting everyday but I hate putting in a bunch of effort to a blank profile. Honestly between work, exercising, and hobbies I have very little motivation to text a potential girlfriend and keep a conversation going before I get to know the other person.
Am I being unrealistic? In 2020 should I expect to text girls in dating apps every couple hours or everyday. I put in my profile that I am looking for someone low maintenance but I am starting to think low communication initially is realistic on the dating market.

2020.09.16 18:09 nickmillerism I am 32 years old make $47,000 and live on Long Island and work as a finance assistant.

Money diary of myself and my boyfriend, D.
Income
Income Progression: I am paid hourly at $17 an hour with overtime available, which before COVID and starting again soon I work an average of 58-61 hours a week. D is also paid hourly at $29 an hour and has overtime available when asked.
Monthly Take Home: The month of August for me was $2,245 after taxes and 401k. D makes $3200 a month after taxes. I forfeit my health insurance and receive $150 a month because I am on D's work plan which is the same exact health insurance but shockingly cheaper because his company pays more into it.
Assets and Debt
Retirement Balance (and how you got there): 401k balance today is $17,991.51. I am now 100% vested because I've been at my job for 8 years. Company matches 1%, it's a small family owned business so I don't expect anything at all.Savings account balance: $12,300 in my personal, $2,900 in D's personal.Checking account balance: $400 in my personal, ~$3,300 in joint checking for shared expenses.
Credit card debt (and how you accumulated it): Explained below in expenses
Student loan debt (for what degree): I graduated at a SUNY school for journalism and photography. My dad paid for all 4 years and has never asked to be repaid. I think it was the worst mistake I ever made because 1: I was going through depression and other emotional issues 2: I never used my degree by way of graduating in 2010 and never was hired for a job I was qualified to do.
Expenses
Rent: $1,819 for a 900sq ft one bedroom second floor apartment with a large outdoor balcony. 5th year rent will be $1,940 which we know because we signed a 2 year lease this time and I negotiated down both years rent. Renters insurance: $135 for one year paid in April.
Health insurance: $755.56 a month, or $188.89 deducted per pay check from D's job. It includes medical, dental and vision.
Savings contribution: I was very good at saving during and before COVID. I would save $500-$600 a check depending on bills due that pay period. Now I'm just happy if I have money in my checking to roll over into savings at the next pay period. I set up auto-save for D $100 a week into his own savings account.
Debt payments:$387.02 balance on Chase Freedom and $3,900 balance on Target MasterCard (which are for revolving shared expenses and I'm slowly learning to stop. I have a habit of wanting more liquid cash in our checking in case of emergencies rather than use it for spending. I don't know why I'm like this and I hate it.) $3,966 on a Discover card that was a balance transfer from AMEX with 0% interest for 18 months. Beginning balance was $5,459 that D had been using when we first started dating 8 years ago, ran up the charge and just never told me about. He's been paying it down with monthly minimum automatic $200 payments until I have to balance transfer to another card (LOL COOL). I control all finances because he spends thoughtlessly and doesn't understand money.
Monthly expenses:
Electric: Summer months are $50-$100, winter months are $25-$45.
Wifi: $80/month Verizon Fios internet.
Subscriptions: We have Hulu free from having Sprint, Disney+ free for 2 years from signing up for Fios this year. HBOMAX, Amazon Prime, Showtime, Netflix, Apple TV my parents pay for and we use their logins and use a separate profile for streaming.
Cellphone: $67 auto pay monthly for my Sprint service. D's is $130 auto pay monthly because he pays for the phone as he goes bundled with his Sprint service plan.
Pet expenses: Chewy order of $67 every 3 months for 40lbs of litter, 2 packets of treats, 48 cans of food and a new toy. I buy her a new scratcher pad, toy or cute nonsense every so often in addition to this. She's my child and I work to make her life great.
Car payment: My 3 year Jeep lease is $278/month. The Jeep I traded in for this was owned and was given $7,000 as the trade in cost. I used that to cover my payments for the first 2 years and am now paying for it myself as of September.
My car insurance this year is $1,528 for the year. D owns both his cars outright and pays $76/month for insurance.Apple Music and iPhone storage: $11/month, I use.
Spotify: $10/month, D uses.
Weed/beealcohol expenses: $120 twice a month for bud we share. D spends an average of $150-200 a month on craft beer (please roll your angry eyes with me)
Day 1:
530am: Wake up after maybe my worst winery experience ever. I can handle my alcohol, have never thrown up and never been hung over. It was almost as if someone put something in my drink or it was bad wine. Shower, Skincare/makeup routine of CeraVe moisturizing cleanser, Pixi Glow tonic, FIT concealer, Anastasia Modern Romance palette, LashCraft big volume mascara. I stopped using so much makeup (foundation/full face) since the pandemic started since I wasn't going to work for 3 months and my skin is clear and beautiful for the first time in my life. Pop 2 Advil, feed our cat and head to work. This is the usual morning routine so there's no need to keep repeating it for this.
745am: Decide I need a cure of a bacon, egg, cheese, salt, pepper, ketchup on a roll. $4
8am: Fill my Yeti water bottle, get into my office and start my day. It's the last day of our sales month and I know I'll have long stretches of hours in my chair getting through the paperwork.
1pm: Work friends decide to order lunch. I go in on their order from NY Panini with a sandwich (thin chicken cutlet, fresh mozz, vodka sauce to dip. Absolutely heavenly). $15 including tip.
4pm: Get an alert from Chase that D bought beer at our local bevy. $20
8:30pm: Finally done, hit our imaginary number. Drive home, get ready for bed and much needed uninterrupted sleep.
Total: $39
Day 2: 5am: Wake up to the cat meowing in my face. Guess she didn't get fed her pre-breakfast when D woke up. 8am: Sit down in my office and be happy today will be slow. I had made a batch of cold brew over the weekend with Peet's Major Dickason's blend, so I pour that over water and add a splash of Oatly.
1pm: Lunch that I brought from home (chicken with mozz and a red sauce i made from our garden tomatoes) while reading The Southern Book Club's Guide To Slaying Vampires.
430pm: Leave work on time, get home to do household chores, catch up with D and relax a little before a late dinner out.
8pm: I'm trying to break the habit of getting home, getting comfortable and canceling plans to stay home so I change back into an outfit to meet up with my friend that I never get to see because our schedules never match up. We order roasted brussels sprouts, penne ala vodka, a paloma for me and a mojito for him. He ends up paying and I will owe him dinner next time.
11pm: Home, skincare, bed.
TOTAL: $0
Day 3:
8am: Settle into work, see there's not much going on today and read a decent amount of the book I picked up over the weekend. This week it's The Southern Book Club's Guide To Slaying Vampires. I make good use of 2 of my local libraries and keep track of how much I would have spent if I bought books or bought/rented movies. So far I've saved $782.
12pm: Weird lunch of leftovers thrown together (tomato and mozzarella salad, cucumber slices) while talking with work friends.
1pm: Get an alert from Chase that D got McDonalds for lunch $15.73
6pm: End up having to stay late because of a delivery no one ever told us about. Wait for insurance to come in, print up paperwork and run out before anything else happens.
7pm: Come home to D in the middle of laundry and heating up leftovers for dinner. After a few bites, my anxiety takes over from needing to go to the store and make a deal with him (i fold his laundry if he comes to the store with me). We pick up K-cups for D, Keurig filter, almond milk, bread, English muffins, Ritz-bits, Nutter-Butters, sour cream, dish soap and cotton rounds. $54.85
9pm: Skincare, read some of my book and sleep before 10.
TOTAL: $70.58
Day 4: 645am: Sleep in a bit, throw up my hair and head to work for another slow day.
2pm: Co-worker treats 4 of us to halal for lunch and we sit together trying to figure out our schedules for what nights coming up work best to go out for drinks. Seems to be tomorrow that works. Pack up and head to a dreaded dentist appointment.
330pm: I usually don't mind this appointment because I take really good care of my teeth, and I love my hygienist. My usual dentist isn't in, so a different one informs me an old filling is cracking and I will need a crown (but from what the X-ray shows, not a root canal and post!). They quote me $1360 for the crown and $500 for a new night guard. Told them I would look into being added to D's dental insurance in addition to the medical I'm now on so that both those expenses would be cut by 85%. Use my CareCredit card to pay my bill for today's 5 X-rays, cleaning and a checkup. $271.
4pm: Get an alert from Chase that D also spent $54 between a doctor copay and a prescription pick up. He also stops at 7-11 for whatever he got there $10.22.
5pm: Change into leggings, tank and sneakers so I'm motivated enough to go on a walk and it's not 900 degrees. D decides to join. We smoke a bowl and enjoy a longer than usual walk around our neighborhood. Our new favorite thing is critiquing houses and landscaping since soon we will have to make the decision to stay another 2 years at our apartment, buy my parents' house or find a new place.
7pm: Change into comfy clothes and settle onto my couch D makes a teriyaki London broil, roasted onions and shisito peppers for dinner. We get into a Hulu and Netflix black hole and impulse watch 2 episodes Married To Millions (jfc, these people are insane but can't look away).
TOTAL: 335.22
Day 5: 630am: Get out of the shower in a panic thinking there's gun shots going off but it's some moron setting off fireworks. In front of my Jeep. Cool. Neighbors start recording him and his white BMW license plate and he eventually drives off cursing at all of them. I need a strong coffee.
730am: Find that the neighbor slipped a Post-It through the mail slot with the police report number she filed in case that guy comes back and it's nice to have if i notice any damage to my Jeep that may have happened.
830am: Friday and it's pay day for both D and I. I transfer $500 into our joint account and feel relief that we're done with bills for the month so it can only go up from here.
10am: If anyone calls me that isn't work related, I panic that someone died or an equally bad situation. D calls to tell me our refrigerator is being replaced since they cannot repair it! All our appliances have been upgraded or replaced since we've moved in, which makes it enticing to sign another lease when we have to in 2022.
4pm: Get an alert from Chase that D took out money to pay for our bi-monthly weed pickup. Our guy gets medical quality from California so it's worth the steeper price. $120
6pm: Out on time and meet my friend/co-worker K at the bar. He has friends there already and it's already getting wild. Work friends and other people I know slowly trickle in and it's a great night. I never understand how people hate their co-workers because I don't know what I would do without them as my genuine friends. Z, K's now fiance, shows up and she wants to talk outside in private where she asks me to be in their wedding party! So honored. They got engaged 2 weeks ago and it's extra special for me because Z's parents and mine have been best friends for 30+ years and I have worked with K for 5 years. We're all very close and he treats me very well in return for how much I help him at work.
9pm: I throw in $40 cash for my one beer, a shared app and a tip.
TOTAL: $160
Day 6: 445am: D wakes up at dawn to go fishing, which he tries to do every off summer day he has. I'm more of a "have a cocktail and read my book on the boat", but today is a get shit done day.
6am: Make my cup of cold brew with a splash of oat milk and start cleaning the entire apartment. Wait until 9am to use the deep cleaning vacuum (we have a smaller Dyson v8 for everyday cleaning and a plug in Bissell Turbo plus for once a week. I just wish I could be more like Monica Geller in a Friends deep cut and have a smaller one to clean both of those.)
11am: Once everything seems in place and spotless, I head out for errands. My mother works at my hometown library and gets me all the new releases. I stop in to pick up my holds for the week and they tell me I won the summer reading challenge (read 32 books) and my prize is a Kindle Fire 7 HD!
12pm: Drive to the most convenient shopping center around. First Ulta for shampoo, conditioner and the Anastasia brow gel. I usually use the Coloupop Boss Brow but decided to try a higher end product that may last longer. I use $6 of Ulta points and $34 of a store credit balance. Just $34 owed. At Target I pick up Pixi Glow toner, quart Ziplocs, Febreeze and an oversized tie-dye crop tee. I get a $5 giftcard to use later because the beauty purchase was more than $25 itself. $53.51. Last stop is Whole Foods to get Oatly, 2 bags of Purely Elizabeth grain-free granola and a LaColombe draft latte. $15.59
2pm: We had made plans to meet up with K and Z for some drinks and food but D is running behind on the boat. 2 hours later we finally get in the car and meet them. Round of beers at the first place and round of drinks at the second, K pays. Stop into a jewelry store in the town where Z buys earrings for herself and snuck in a t-shirt that says "bridesmaid/best friend" for me. I just love her. . 5pm: Realize that it's Derby day and our usual bar is having an event, which thankfully died down by the time we arrive. The Islanders game is also on which annoys the hell out of me. We all order some drinks, wings, nachos and the cook makes us Italian bread zeppoles. I somehow manage to convince K to let me pay for once. Our favorite bartender is 33 so I tip him $33. $66 total
9pm: Get in at a surprisingly reasonable hour and am able to get quality sleep before tomorrow's long day.
TOTAL: $169.10
Day 7:
7am: Sleep in a bit, enjoy my cold brew and get in some time reading Majesty by Katharine McGee (highly recommend the first book American Royals) while the cat has zoomies that won't end.
10am: Feeling restless and decide on a 2 hour walk alone. Listen to the sunday NYT Daily and Smartless (new podcast with Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes). Back home and get ready for the day.
2pm: Celebrating Labor Day sunday with our quarantine bubble friends and their kids. We're in charge of getting sides and seltzer and I don't disappoint with our selections (the expected mac, coleslaw, potato salads, a cold pasta and veggie salad, tomato, basil, mozz salad, Long Island corn to roast and Blueberry Lemonade Polar seltzer. $34.08. Much to my dismay, D stops at the bevy and gets a 6 pack of Zombie Dust beer $24.32.
7pm: Dinner was incredible bbq food and we end the night with s'mores around the fire pit. Time at our friends' house always feels like a short time at a resort between the chef's kitchen, salt water pool, hot tub and fire pit, I never want to leave. We are also not going to have children so I enjoy the time we get to spend with our friends' kids who are basically family. They send us home with so many leftovers and I graciously accept the fact I won't have to cook anything until Wednesday.
11pm: Stop on the service road for gas $42.50. Get home way too late for a work night, and a sales holiday no less. Get ready for bed and read until I relax enough to fall asleep
TOTAL: 100.90
Weekly Total:$835.80
Week of reflection:
After taking a hard look at everything financially and emotionally in my life, I sat down with D and told him my frustrations over the past few years. I told him I don't want to be anxious every time I get a Chase alert and that he spends without thinking. We agreed that $50 a week will go into his own debit account which he can use for morning coffee, beer, and whatever is his own stuff. His $100 autosave i=for him is switched to every other week for awhile. We will never get to another level relationship-wise or financially if we keep spending more than we earn or don't keep a closer eye on things. I also explained how I am his partner and not a parent and I don't enjoy nagging him about how to adult better. Any other purchase or new expense over $100 we will talk about before doing it.
We will also be designating one or two days a week for errands and expenses with a list in hand so we don't go and buy unnecessary things and stop going to stores so often.

2020.09.16 09:36 SugarDaddyMeetApp My Best Friend Is a Sugar Daddy. What Is That Like?

First, the numbers.
44: age of my best friend, John
150–200: number of women he has dated since August 1, 2016
2: average dates per week
9: most dates in one week
60: number of women he has slept within that time
48: his oldest partner
17: his youngest partner (her profile said she was 18, officer!)
$12,000–15,000: what John has paid these dates. I don’t mean the price of the outings, the meals and movies, and tanks of gas. I mean the — well, it goes by several names. Stipend. Allowance. Per-meeting cost. It is a strange lifestyle, one of transactional affection, torts and tickers, ships that pay in the night, dinner, and a movie not as foreplay but fee harvesting. My best friend is, in short, a sugar daddy.
Sugar daddies have been around for ages. The term is an amalgam of “sugar,” a slang term for money, and “daddy,” a reference to an older man, and it dates back to the 1920s. The last few years have seen a rise in interest in sugar culture. A Google search for “sugar daddy” turns up nearly 2 million results, with “sugar baby” yielding another 3 million.
Money is, of course, the cardinal rule, but not all sugar babies are Melania Trump types seeking pampering at the hands of billionaires. About half are working their way through college. Others are between jobs, struggling with debt, or simply interested in older men. Whatever their motives, sugar babies are having a moment.
It takes two to Venmo, however, and few writers seem interested in portraying sugar daddies as anything other than rich and powerful Bruce Wayne wannabees. John is not in his 60s. He is well-off but not wealthy. He doesn’t sit on corporate boards, have box seats at The Met, or own a tuxedo. The only person who paparazzos him is his mother. He got into sugaring, not for arm candy but to mitigate the risk of getting hurt (more on this later). He finds his babies on SeekingArrangement, the first and best-known sugar dating site, which was founded in 2006 and has over 3.5 million members, according to some sources.
He joined the site in 2016, and in a little less than two years, he has, in his words, “felt all the breasts — big, small, flabby, perky, fake, real.” Most of the women have been under 30. Many were under 25. He’s dated college students, single moms, middle-agers, and a married couple. Redheads, blondes, brunettes. Asian, African-American, German, Brazilian, British, Mexican, Moroccan, plain old Southern. A bartender, a biochemist, small business owners, exotic dancers, office workers, an engineer, a lawyer, a nanny, “between jobs.”
A fashion model.
A former Playboy bunny.
As with any dating, there have been ups and downs. One woman excused herself during dinner and never came back. One kept texting her father all night, including to ask him what she should order for her meal. One threw up on his bathroom floor. One got drunk, made a list of his flaws, and said she couldn’t wait to see how big his penis was. Some were into bondage, some into DDLG, and one in California still says she is in love with him. They have never met.

2020.09.14 21:40 2020cookie2020 My husband committed suicide in August. Now that I have to deal with his family, I completely understand why.

My (28F) husband (36M) took his own life in our home back in August. Every day has been a living hell for me since then. As if it is not enough that I listened to my husband die and I am essentially being forced from my home, my husband's family is going crazy and trying to rewrite history. My in-laws aren't as bad as some, but man oh man, do they know how to make a bad situation even worse.
Here are some of the highlights of the situation:
All of my interactions with my in-laws result in major panic attacks from me. I almost checked myself into an in-patient mental health facility because I was having thoughts about wanting to join my husband and Kitty in the afterlife rather than deal with these idiots. I went down to Southern California to visit my husband's 92 year old paternal grandmother shortly after his death and had several panic attacks in front of his dad's side of the family. They either just stared at me or ignored me. Any time I open up about my struggles, they ignore me. I am frankly shocked that my husband survived as long as he did. Their entire family is whackadoodle.
ETA: I am going no contact with his family at this point. Most of their phone numbers are blocked. I just needed to vent about the absolutely lunacy that I put up with for far too long.

2020.09.14 10:23 dshussai Need emotional support... getting sober from meth and heroin. 24 years old. Am I making the right decision? It's too late to change plans. Please give me your thoughts! Thank you its so very much appreciated!

Hey guys, I relapsed on meth 4 months ago. I am 24 and from 19-20 years old I became a meth addict for about 9months. My family couldn't notice because meth didn't make me go crazy but rather because incredibly focused. So focused that I'm not focused on anything pretty much. Im sure it was cause i used such high amount then.. Anyways, I came clean to my family they helped me get clean then kinda hated on me since because all my siblings are doctors and professors and I'm the black sheep. I'm not a bad person but I'm a serious addict. I get addicted easily even with weed. During the four years sober I did smoke weed occasionally. Anyways, working graveyard at a gas station these last 8 months led to me feeling the need to use meth to stay awake one night and then it became me needing to use it for working graveyard during COVID because they reduced the graveyard shift workers from 2 to just me needing to accomplish all the tasks. I had control in the beginning because I never smoked, as I did when I abused in the past. It continually became more frequent because when I didn't use my manager would be angry with my performance at work and every time I didn't use i became overwhelmed and couldn't finish all my duties in time. But when I used my manager praised me as her favorite worker. Then when I started using all my work days (again in moderate doses) still on my off days since I lived at home my dad would be so angry because I was tired all day and wanted to sleep instead of interacting with the family. It got to the point that I had to start using on my off days so that my dad would not be so angry at me 24/7 and accuse me of being on drugs for being so tired. But when I used he would be so proud of me for being productive. I know the stupid irony behind this. Anyways, 4 months into the beginning of using, I am now at the point where I am using meth right when I wake up intranasally and then using heroin to go to sleep at night smoked. I'm about 3 weeks into the heroin, about 5 days out of the week using heroin as well. Before I used benzos but that was uses up all my money as it was street price. Alongside all this, I was on phenibut for about a year at 2 grams which I was able to quit once the heroin got involved, luckily. Although, I am still determined to quit everything. About two weeks ago, I came to conclusion I cannot quit at home without my family discovering my use due to the withdrawal. I have been able to secure a job in Oregon as I live in Southern California rn. My hopes are that if I have enough determination to quit like I have tried so many times these past 4 months but gave in because my dads anger towards me when I'm displaying withdrawal from meth, that being in another state will be enough distance that I can withdrawal without family accusation and as back up I will not have any immediate hooks for any hard drugs like meth or heroin. I know i have the power to not go looking for the drugs.. I have my tiny geo metro 1997 with the engine light on.. it doesn't overheat but i never driving g it for over two hours straight. and all the money to my name is $125. I am leaving tomorrow morning. My family thinks I have at least $2000+ saved up. I will be stopping in my college town about six hours up north on the way to Oregon to visit a friend. He said I can stay up to a week or more. He doesn't know about my use either. I also am not so far into usage where I steal for money or anything so i am still myself but can't function without drugs.. I am a doordash worker currently, I started about two weeks ago as i quit my gas station job. So I am grateful to have a job that I can work anywhere as I know $125 isn't gonna take me far. I'm gonna try to pull off a few 10 hour shifts while staying with my friend. He work the whole day and is only renting a room and out of respect i don't want to spend my time there at his place when he's not there. I am not brining heroin with me. That's the first drug to cut out. I am bringing about .2-.3 of the ICE that I will be using in small amounts to get myself up to Oregon and not be to tired to drive. I know I am dumb to let all this start again but I am determined not to let this be my life. I am 24 darn it!! I want to be sober and have a future and a family. But wholly Molly am I scared. Mostly because of I'm taking this huge step with only $125. But I just can't stay here. I'll spend more on drugs even if I made more money to move. I am already planning to go fully through with NA meeting and such once I get to the city my future job is in Oregon. I am not worried about the start dates as my requiter who got me the warehouse job is understanding that the current fires in norcal and Oregon is (holding me back supposedly) . I know I have to be fully detoxed and recovered enough from the meth to so that I can work well at the warehouse job also an not be too tired to work. Luckily, I will have the time as the start date will be around the beginning of next month. Idk I'm kinda freaking out right now. I'm scared because I know how much of a risk I am taking moving with just a $125. I know how dumb I am. Can anyone please give me some encouragement...? I need to be a man. I am just so scared right now about the future.

2020.09.13 04:02 heymomo7 Routine about my doctor

Short routine I'm working on, needs polishing, still really rough, welcoming suggestions.
Several years ago, in my late 30's, I realized I'd never been for a skin check with a dermatologist, and I went in. I'm a bit neurotic and high-strung, even though I hide it well, but the first thing they asked me to do when I got into the little room was to disrobe, then the doctor and her assistant came in, put me at ease, and then proceeded to go over my entire body and measure every mole or discoloration that I had, with the doc dictating coordinates and measurements on each type I had. After checking everything, the doc asked if I had anything else, to which I replied affirmatively that the old twig and berries had a couple of moles, so I ended up with this very clinical examination with two rubber-gloved women handling and looking at my cock and balls, and even though nothing was remotely sexy about this situation and I don't have any fetishes that would potentially line up with this scenario, because I was naked in front of a different woman for the first time in years, there was still this stupid little fear monster in the back of my brain screaming "Don't get a boner! Do not get a boner! There's no way you can explain that one easily!" Thankfully, this wasn't really a major concern, and I got out of there without any embarrassment, besides the weirdness of the situation, which realistically was all in my head.
Next year, I need to do it again, but I've changed insurance, so new clinic that takes my plan. I get to the little room, and to my relief, a middle aged dude with a Southern California surfer vibe comes in, and I'm fine because, being a heterosexual man, there's realistically not much chance of me accidentally popping wood, unless he happens to break out a bunch of whiskey and meth. Tiger King proved anything is possible with enough drugs, right? So I get my exam, and he isn't as thorough with the note taking and examination as the last two were, but since I don't see any issues from my eyes and I don't know any way to politely say "hey, can't you look at my dick a little closer," I let it go. We talk really quickly about some issues I'm having lately with body acne, he gives me a couple topical products to try, says we'll follow in 3 months and see if they've had any impact, and discuss the next steps. Awesome.
I go back three months later, that doc isn't there anymore, and the new doc steps in. I was a bit taken aback because it was a very youthful appearing, attractive woman who was a dead ringer for an actress on a medical drama my wife watched that I hated but won't mention the name of (Gray's Anatomy). By this point I've gotten over my irrational fear of growing in the doc's gloved hand, but I was a little uncomfortable, because even though she was very professional and rather nice, I thought she was about 26 or so, which meant they had given me the intern, and I don't want the intern, I want an actual doctor! And I went home and it kinda rattled around in my head, and I was stewing a bit, but then I thought maybe she's just really youthful looking, so finally I googled her name, since it was uncommon. And I felt a little bad because I almost felt like I was stalking her, and I didn't want to be creepy, but I figured I'd ignore anything that came up that might be personal like social media or anything sensitive. So without even clicking on the links, I find out that she graduated more than a decade ago from a decent medical school, plus apparently she's got a lot of pinterest entries, which is a something no young person has ever had, and I'm over myself. In fact, she's almost my age, she just looks young.
But it made me realize that even though many times I've used the phrase "Wow, you don't look your age," and I've received it on occasion with flattery, it isn't really a compliment. Because when I think of someone in their 20's, I think, clueless. I think someone splitting a 3-bedroom apartment with three other people, and I hope they don't have the room with two beds, I think crappy car due to crappy credit, high student loans, and still occasionally borrowing money from their parents. And I realized that it's not a compliment. I don't want people thinking I'm in my 20's and just getting started, or in my 30's and just getting my shit together in life, I want them to realize I'm my age. If I were single, I'd want a woman to realize that a date with me means that I'll pay at a nicer restaurant, and I'll put it on a platinum card which I'm then going to pay off in a few weeks so I can get miles, not we're going dutch at a pizza place right by campus. And that's why I was nervous about the age of this doctor, not just because I didn't want an inexperienced person judging my chart, but because someone who's apartment is filled with towels they stole from a Motel 6 on a broke road trip to the beach while eating nothing but fast food can't make good decisions on their own life, let alone mine.

2020.09.12 04:07 heyilan Failed Driving Test 5 Times, Next Test is Next Thursday 9/17

I'm 17 years old, and I live in southern California. I first started learning how to drive when I was around 15 years old, and I got my first permit when I was 15, almost 16. After I got my permit, I took a few driving tests, and then failed them, so I got my second permit August 2019, when I was 16. My second permit was supposed to expire, but because of COVID-19, in California, the expiration date was extended another 6 months. Since I got my permit, I've been practicing driving, but I've failed the driving test 5 times already, and it looks like I'm going to fail a 6th time. Why do I suck at driving so much? And how can I pass my next driving test?
These are all the times I failed my driving test.
  1. Test #1: I turned left at an intersection even though the light was red (automatic fail). (Torrance DMV)
    1. I now know better now to wait for the green light at an intersection before turning. If there isn't a light for turning, then I have to wait until the traffic is clear.
  2. Test #2: I turned right at an intersection on a red light when cars were coming from the left (. (Santa Ana DMV)
    1. I now know better to watch for traffic before turning right on a red light or to just wait until the light turns green.
  3. Test #3: I didn't get any automatic fails this time, but I made a lot of small mistakes. I drove over 7 mph in the parking lot, slamming on/off gas, and problems with speed and lane use. Only 15 errors are allowed in order to pass, and I made 22. (Torrance DMV)
    1. I now know that I have to drive at 7 mph or slower in a parking lot, turn, brake/accelerate smoothly with my toes instead of balls of my feet, and be aware of speed limits (but I'm still not really confident in my self about this since it's so hard to see the speed limit signs all the time. when I don't see the signs, I try to estimate according to the speeds of the other cars)
  4. Test #4: I was so nervous, I turned left when the examiner said right. He let me have another chance, but on the way back to the DMV parking lot, I turned left when another car had the right of way (automatic fail). Apparently, I drove too closely to the other car, even though we didn't crash. (Torrance DMV)
    1. I now know to LISTEN to the driving examiner's directions and not make a stupid mistake like that again. I also know that if another car with the right of way seems anywhere near to me, I should just wait for it to pass.
  5. Test #5: I hit a curb and crossed a solid white line when driving through a bike lane to turn right (automatic fail). (Santa Monica DMV)
    1. I know now to watch for curbs (I try) and only cross dashed white lines, not solid white lines.
I practiced so much for the fifth test. It was on July 3, during COVID-19. (It was supposed to be in March, but it got postponed.) Because I don't live in Santa Monica, for around a week and a half, I practiced driving a few hours every day to prepare myself. I drove to Santa Monica, even though it's far from where I live, several times, even driving on the highway. My friend who lives in Santa Monica offered to help me practice since she knows the route that the DMV uses for the driving exam, so we practiced together for about an hour the day of my test.
As far as I know, there are many small reasons that I'm bad at driving.
  1. I live in a suburban area where the roads are ridiculously easy to navigate. I've taken driving tests at 3 separate DMVs so far, and there's definitely more traffic in all those places compared to where I live.
  2. I have really bad navigation skills. I feel like this shouldn't affect my driving test results that much since it's basically just the examiner telling me where to go, not me navigating by myself, but today, I was practicing driving, and even with a GPS, it wasn't always easy for me to figure out where to turn. Today, for example, I realized that I had to turn left at an intersection at the last minute, so I crossed a solid white line to get into the correct lane. Nothing dangerous happened, but I know that if it were an actual driving test, that would've been an automatic fail.
  3. This is literally so stupid, but maybe it's my bad eyesight. On Monday, I went for a medical checkup, the first in a long time, and apparently I have abnormally bad eyesight. A few years ago, I got prescribed glasses, but I rarely wear them because I feel like I can see fine without them. It's a rather long explanation, but basically, glasses are so annoying, so I just didn't wear mine for a long time. Today, I was practicing driving, and I planned to wear my glasses while driving this time to see if it would make a difference, but I forgot.........
  4. I get nervous when driving. But frankly, I'm not really sure if I'm that much worse of a driver when practicing driving calmly, compared to during a driving exam.
  5. Also, since I have a permit, it's illegal for me to drive on my own, so when I practice, I always drive with an adult. Whenever I'm about to make a mistake, they warn/stop me, so maybe that's one reason that I'm better at driving when practicing compared to an actual test, when examiners don't intervene at all.
  6. My dad says that when I'm driving, I need to focus more, since I'm too "absent-minded". This is probably the main reason, and the main challenge in my driving experience. My dad has been really angry at me recently due to this habit, which he connects to my whole personality. He yells at me, questioning if I'm an "intelligent being" or if there's actually any thinking going on in my brain. (Does this make sense?) I understand why he's frustrated because I am too. Over the years, I think I've improved in driving, making fewer mistakes, but sometimes, I still make the same mistake over and over again. Many times, this has led to us both screaming at each other in the car, since he thinks that a normal person is supposed to fix the mistake, not make the same mistake again. I really try to focus and learn from my mistakes, but I feel that it's still not good enough. Driving is supposed to be easy; basically everyone knows how to drive, and with enough practice, anyone is supposed to be capable of driving. This is what my parents have told me over and over again, since they're so disappointed, frustrated, and just don't know why I can't drive. But I'm beginning to think that driving is actually pretty hard? It's just so hard to be aware of the speed limit, all the cars around you at all times, and also if you're heading in the right direction to your destination. It's like something a robot can do, not a human. Most of the time, I'm a decent driver, but sometimes, my mind just slips, and all of a sudden, I'm about to crash into a car behind me that I didn't notice. I think for almost anything, it's normal for humans to slip up like this, but I feel like the driving exam is different. For the driving exam, it's like I'm expected to drive perfectly. I know it's manageable since it's only like 15 minutes, but still :/
At this point, I've lost almost all hope. I wish I lived in Georgia so I could just get my license without taking the road test. I wish I can move to a nice place with decent public transportation like New York City or Montreal, so I will never have to deal with this problem of driving, but I think it's likely that I'll stay in California for college, so I really need to get a license.
I've already seen so many of my peers pass the driving test after 1/2/3 tries, and it just seems really easy for them. I don't know why this seems like such a challenge to me. I don't feel like a normal person, like there's something fundamentally wrong with me. As I said before, my parents are also so confused why I'm so stupid at something that's supposed to be easy. I wrote that my dad connects this "to my whole personality". I think I get what he means, but I'm not sure how to explain it. He loses his temper easily. Once, he was really angry at me, and said that I'm a failure, pointing to all my driving test failures as an example of how incapable I am. After I failed the test the 5th time, my mom said that she was "disappointed" in me because it just seemed that I wasn't "fighting for this for [my] life." The way she said that really made me feel ashamed. But I reminded her how much I practiced (around a week and a half of driving every day, driving to the Santa Monica DMV, and driving on the highway, practicing with my friend), and she had nothing else to say after that.
I feel like the driving test is supposed to be easy. It's just like common sense. And I feel like passing the driving test means that someone is at least at the most basic level as a driver, not even that they're a good driver. When I practice driving, I feel like I'm a decent driver, definitely not perfect, but most of the time, I'm pretty good. I don't get why apparently I'm still not good enough. I feel like in order to get a license, I shouldn't have to spend so much effort to be a perfect driver. So I don't agree with my mom that I was supposed to have fought for this "for my life". Did she expect me to sacrifice my entire life just to pass a driving test? I'm a high school student; I have so many other responsibilities besides driving.
I feel like with the time I've spent for this driving test, I could've been doing so many other things. Yeah, I probably would've used this extra time to just binge-watch more TV shows, but I still feel so much regret about this whole thing. Who knows, maybe I would've actually achieved something with this time if I passed earlier. it's already been more than 2 years. I'm so tired. I've also been having problems with my mental health due to driving exam failures. I won't get into details. It's probably not as bad as other people's mental health issues, but my driving experience still has had a really huge negative impact on my life so far.
Actually, I got my second permit really easily. After my first permit expired, I walked into the DMV without having studied/reviewed beforehand, took the written test, and passed. I feel like this means that in my head, I do know how to drive; for some reason, I can't do it in real life.
Since I suck at driving so much, I'm taking driving lessons again, and next time I practice, I'll remember to wear glasses. But currently, I barely have any opportunities to practice driving due to the pandemic (I barely leave my house). I think I drive somewhat better than before, but it's not a lot of improvement since the last time I took the test. I don't have much hope for my next test. I don't know what else I can do. Does anyone have any advice or similar experiences?

2020.09.11 10:46 RebornInLife Prophecies of Edgar Cayce

Prophecies of Edgar Cayce
Edgar Cayce (/ˈkeɪsiː/; March 18, 1877 – January 3, 1945) was an American clairvoyant who claimed to channel a "Source" to answer questions on subjects as varied as healing, reincarnation, dreams, the afterlife, past-life, nutrition, Atlantis, and future events while in a self-induced sleep state. Cayce proposed that his subconscious mind would explore the dream realm where all subconscious minds are timelessly connected. Cayce founded a nonprofit organization, the Association for Research and Enlightenment, to store and facilitate the study of the Cayce material. A biographer gave him the nickname The Sleeping Prophet.
Until September 1923, his readings were not systematically recorded or preserved. However, an article published in the Birmingham Post-Herald on October 10, 1922, quotes Cayce as saying that he had given 8,056 readings as of that date and it is known that he gave approximately 13,000–14,000 readings after that date. A total of 14,306 are available at the A.R.E. Cayce headquarters in Virginia Beach and on an online, member-only section along with background information, correspondence, and follow-up documentation.
Other abilities that have been attributed to Cayce include astral projection, prophesying, mediumship, viewing the Akashic records or "Book of Life", and seeing auras. Cayce said he became interested in learning more about these subjects after he was informed about the content of his readings, which he reported that he never actually heard himself.

Supporters
Cayce's clients included a number of famous people such as Woodrow Wilson, Thomas Edison, Irving Berlin, and George Gershwin.
Gina Cerminara published books such as Many Mansions and The World Within. Brian Weiss published a bestseller regarding clinical recollection of past lives, Many Lives, Many Masters. These books provide broad support for spiritualism and reincarnation. Many Mansions elaborates on Cayce's work and supports his stated abilities with real life examples.
In 1971 Edgar Cayce's sons Edgar Evans Cayce and Hugh Lynn Cayce published a book titled The Outer Limits of Edgar Cayce's Power,[70] claiming Cayce's readings had an approximate 85% success rate. The majority of the book investigated cases where Cayce's readings were demonstrably incorrect.

Will our lifespan, as human beings, be extended?
We know that humans are now living longer than at the time of Edgar Cayce, but his readings seem to indicate that a healthy human lifespan would extend years beyond that which we are currently living.
“Now, we find there are many changes in the body since we have had this – many for good. Many of the organs and the conditions show the changes as come about by the natural, or so called natural conditions in changes as the body succumbs to the effects of age or usage in the system. Much of this may be overcome. (Man should live much longer than has been ordinarily given – and will!)” -- Edgar Cayce reading 244-2
Will we discover the design for a self-fueling perpetual-motion machine?
Perhaps with the current focus on renewable resources and energy conservation, we will see this next prophecy come to pass in our lifetimes.
“You will have before you the gasless motor invented by [4666]. “Edgar Cayce: Yes, we have the body and enquiring mind of [4666], also the associations and those conditions surrounding the perfection of motor which will develop power in its own action. As has been given, the idea and the plans as have been worked out in part along those lines that pull more of the power as produced in compression in drum, with the leads made in these forms that gather vibrations from the air as is forced through drum, are, as we find, the better application of the created energy. In the cams [as] have been used too much slack or play is allowed in their rotation. This is in the drum’s head action that these must be shortened in play. “The connection of [195] and [900] with same – best that these have [4666]’s operations closer under their observations when the completed product is near attained. “(Q) How may we bring him under our observation? (A) Bring him to … Ohio or N.Y. “(Q) Is this machine the same as brought to Washington now by Lindbergh? [Charles A. Lindbergh] (A) No. As is here, the [4666] machine would operate on stationary conditions impelling forces; even for now that in gas motors – for, as tested by others, has more to do with that thrown in air and gaining its impelling force from that source. (Q) Would it operate perpetually if perfected? (A) Not perpetually, but once started could be kept in motion by created energy of its own source. Other has to have some source of impellation.” -- Edgar Cayce reading 4665-1
Conflict in the Persian Gulf
“…As is understood by many, in the earth manifestation and the cycle of time much repeats itself … There are still influences indicated in the lives of groups banded as nations, banded as peoples, still influenced by those happenings. What then, ye ask, is the influence that makes for this great change that may be expected? The powers of light and darkness, as then, as sixteen hundred (1600) years before. As in those periods, so today – we find nation against nation; the powers of death, destruction, the wrecking of that which has been and is held near and dear to the hearts of those who have through one form or another set ideals. These are not to be questioned, in that as may be a helpful force; but what is coming to pass? And how may ye as individuals help? … Strifes will arise through the period. Watch for them near Davis Strait in the attempts there for the keeping of the life line to a land open. Watch for them in Libya and in Egypt, in Ankara and in Syria, through the straits about those areas above Australia, in the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf.” -- Edgar Cayce reading 3976-26
Is a New “Root Race” Evolving?
The Edgar Cayce information suggests that humanity’s consciousness has evolved and expanded over time. Cayce stated that this expansion of consciousness could be viewed throughout the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. From the readings perspective the next great evolution would be tied to the development of what Cayce termed “the fifth root race.” An evolutionary occurrence that would mark a New Age and a new understanding of humanity’s relationship to God:
When a 52-year-old construction engineer asked about this expanding consciousness in 1942, Cayce commented that each individual had to essentially work with personal soul development in order to resonate to that new consciousness: “You expect a new root race. What are you doing to prepare for it? You must prepare food for their bodies as well as their minds and their spiritual development!” -- Edgar Cayce reading 470-35 Ten years earlier, during a reading on the Great Pyramid in Egypt, Cayce suggested that an ancient “Hall of Records” would be discovered at a time signifying the manifestation of this new level of consciousness. -- Edgar Cayce reading 5748-6
Will the Three Halls of Records Be Discovered?
According to the readings, the people of Atlantis became aware of the fact that their civilization was about to be destroyed. As a result, they hid identical records of the Atlantean civilization in Bimini, in Egypt and in the Yucatan. Numerous readings contend that this Hall of Records will be discovered, including:
(Q) Give in detail what the sealed room contains (A) A record of Atlantis from the beginnings of those periods when the Spirit took form or began the encasements in that land, and the developments of the peoples throughout their sojourn, with the record of the first destruction and the changes that took place in the land... This in position lies, as the sun rises from the waters, the line of the shadow (or light) falls between the paws of the Sphinx, that was later set as the sentinel or guard, and which may not be entered from the connecting chambers from the Sphinx's paw (right paw) until the TIME has been fulfilled when the changes must be active in this sphere of man's experience. Between, then, the Sphinx and the river.” -- Edgar Cayce reading 378-16 (Q) In which pyramid or temple are the records mentioned in the readings given through this channel on Atlantis, in April, 1932? (A) As given, that temple was destroyed at the time there was the last destruction in Atlantis. Yet, as time draws nigh when changes are to come about, there may be the opening of those three places where the records are one, to those that are the initiates in the knowledge of the One God: The temple by Iltar will then rise again. Also there will be the opening of the temple or hall of records in Egypt, and those records that were put into the heart of the Atlantean land may also be found there - that have been kept, for those that are of that group. The RECORDS are ONE. -- Edgar Cayce reading 5750-1
What is the shape of the world to come?
Decades before the rest of the world was thinking about the enormous impact that China would have upon the global stage, Edgar Cayce predicted great things for China and its people. On one occasion, Cayce told a group of people that eventually China would become “the cradle of Christianity, as applied in the lives of men.” -- Edgar Cayce reading 3976-29
This suggests the personal application of spiritual principles would become paramount to the Chinese people. Cayce then went on to caution that it would take a long time to manifest but that it was the country’s destiny: “Yea, it is far off as man counts time, but only a day in the heart of God – for tomorrow China will awake.”
On another occasion, when a thirty-six-year-old book publisher asked about the destiny of China in 1943, just prior to his own trip to the country to serve in the capacity of a missionary, Cayce promised amazing changes in the country that would lead to more democracy and greater religious freedom. He also suggested that eventually the height of civilization would move from the West to the Chinese people: “And these will progress. For, civilization moves west.” -- Edgar Cayce reading 2834-3
Will There Be a Second Coming?
The Cayce readings had much to say about the life of Jesus—covering the “lost” years that were never addressed in the Bible. But Cayce also spoke of Jesus’ return and here is an excerpt on that subject:
“What is meant by “the day of the Lord is near at hand”? (A) That as has been promised through the prophets and the sages of old, the time – and half time – has been and is being fulfilled in this day and generation, and that soon there will again appear in the earth that one through whom many will be called to meet those that are preparing the way for His day in the earth. The Lord, then, will come, ‘even as ye have seen him go.’” -- Edgar Cayce reading 262-49

Prophecies and predictions of Edgar Cayce. Cayce foresaw world events that can only be described as apocalyptic, a period of purification involving natural disasters that will dramatically alter the surface of the Earth, wars, economic collapse, and socio-political unrest. Cayce said that these future events could be averted if humanity changed its behavior. Cayce would repeatedly say that even the Lord of Lords could not accurately predict future events because human free will can alter and change the future. Cayce is referring to the Biblical account when Jesus is asked when he would return. His reply was: “No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father”. (Matt. 24:36)

THE YEAR THE BATTLE OF ARMAGEDDON WILL OCCUR IN THE SPIRIT REALM
Cayce predicted that the so-called “Battle of Armageddon” described symbolically in the Bible would begin in 1999. Cayce foresaw that this “battle” will not be a war fought on Earth. Rather, it will be a spiritual struggle between the “higher forces of light” and “lower forces of darkness” for 1000 years of Earth time. The reason for this struggle is to prevent souls from lower afterlife realms from reincarnating to Earth. By preventing souls from the lower afterlife realms from reincarnating to Earth, only enlightened souls will be permitted to reincarnate. The result will be 1000 years of building a world of peace and enlightenment. After 1000 years, souls from lower afterlife realms will be permitted once again to reincarnate to Earth. By this time, the so-called “kingdom of heaven” will have been established on Earth.

THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF A WORLD WAR III
Cayce foresaw the possibility of a third world war. He spoke of strife arising near the Davis Straits, and in Libya, and in Egypt, in Ankara, and in Syria; through the straits around those areas above Australia, in the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf. Given the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and the tensions in Iran, Turkey/Syria and the Middle East right now, such a war could certainly be a possibility. Since the Middle East unrest and the war against Libya this prophecy stands in the picture, this is the proof that Edgar Cayce really had a vision about this third world war, but it can still be stopped ! Like all prophets say : The future can always be changed by humanity, God gave them a free will !!!

THE YEAR OF THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST
Edgar Cayce often maintained that humanity would soon experience a “day of reckoning.” He predicted the year of the second coming of Jesus to be 1998. Critics who are not very familiar with the Cayce material have pointed out that 1998 has come and gone and the second coming has not occurred. Such critics wrongly expect the second coming to happen when Jesus appears in the sky with a chorus of angels while Gabriel blows a horn and dead bodies crawl out of their graves.

This idea of the resurrection was the result of a misunderstanding of the concept of reincarnation – the ancient concept of birth and rebirth. A new field of science will be developed based on a psychic/spiritual phenomenon Cayce predicted in September, 1939, that when there is the same interest or study given to things or phases of mental and spiritual phenomena as has been and is given to the materialized or material phenomena, then it will become just as practical, as measurable, as meter-able, as any other phase of human experience. Cayce did not specify a time frame, he specified a condition, placing as much research emphasis on the spiritual/occult phenomena as material causation. It would be nice to think that Cayce was referring to near-death research which would fit the description of the science he is referring to. Until we know more in the future, we will have to assume that this prediction is still pending.

A NEW DISCOVERY IN ASTRONOMY WILL OCCUR
Cayce provided a major clue that astronomers have not yet taken up: the discovery of the revolution of the solar system around a star system composed of Arcturus and the Pleiades. Major archeological discoveries concerning human origins will be found. Cayce predicted that there will be three profound archeological discoveries of a very ancient and important nature that will revolutionalize the way we understand human origins, cosmology and religion. Cayce stated that this will occur when humanity reaches a higher level of spirituality. The three repositories mentioned are in Egypt (near the Great Pyramid), the Bimini area (where the possible portion of Atlantis has already been discovered), and the Yucatan (the location where the asteroid that killed off the dinosaurs).

VOLCANIC ACTIVITY WILL PROCEED MAJOR EARTHQUAKES
If there are greater activities in [the volcanoes] Vesuvius or Pelee, then the southern coast of California and the areas between Salt Lake and the southern portions of Nevada, we may expect, within the three months following same, inundation by the earthquakes. But these are to be more in the Southern than the Northern Hemisphere.

AMERICA’S WEST COAST WILL BE DESTROYED
The widespread destruction in Los Angeles and San Francisco as well as in many portions of the west coast will occur. Earth changes will occur in the central portion of the United States as well. NDE researcher Dr. Ken Ring discovered that many near-death accounts he was studying foretell future Earth changes such as earthquakes, volcanoes, a pole shift, strange weather patterns, droughts, pandemics, famines, tidal waves and a new social order followed by a golden age. These NDE visions of the future agree completely with the Cayce predictions described below.

THE OCEAN LEVEL WILL RISE SIGNIFICANTLY
With the shifting of the Earth’s magnetic poles that began in 1998 will come a gradual melting of the polar ice caps and eventually cause inundations of many coastal regions resulting in a drop in the landmass of about 30 feet. In 1941, Cayce elaborated on this effect: “As to conditions in the geography of the world, of the country — changes here are gradually coming about … For, many portions of the east coast will be disturbed, as well as many portions of the west coast, as well as the central portion of the U.S. In the next few years land will appear in the Atlantic as well as in the Pacific. And what is the coast line now of many a land will be the bed of the ocean. Even many battle fields of the present will be ocean, will be the seas, the bays, the lands over which The New World Order will carry on their trade as one with another.

2020.09.08 17:50 Pineapple_Hunter Should I Stay or Should I Go? {HELP!}

Sorry, this is super long.. Any help is greatly appreciated!!
My boyfriend has just joined the USMC, shipping out this month for MCRD San Diego. This is not a high school relationship - I'm 25, he's 28, and we've been living together for nearly three years. I knew he was going to join the Marines before we were even dating, so this has come as no surprise. Somehow, though, I did not mentally prepare myself enough for these kinds of decisions.. The first thing he did after telling me he had joined was ask me to move down to San Diego with him, and I'm very torn.
With all that in mind, here's my dilemma: I obviously want to be with him wherever he goes, but that is out of the question if he gets his wish to be overseas for the majority of the next four years, so does it make sense for me to move to the San Diego area with him?
I just signed a year-long lease on a new apartment (literally two days before my boyfriend swore in, so annoying!) so I have a year to decide, but I'm going to need that time to wrap my head around things and start making plans either way. I'm not afraid of moving to a new area, or living there alone, or any of that. It's actually something I've wanted to do since middle school, so the opportunity is a welcome one! But Southern California would not have been my first choice.. It would be closer to my last choice, really. Is it worth it to move there, just for the chance to maybe see my boyfriend on weekends if he isn't sent overseas right away, and to be here when he gets to come home? Any and all input is welcome! Unless you're a jerk, then go away, nobody likes you. (:
P.S. if you stuck it through to the end of my 10 million word essay, you're a hero and I love you. Sorry I tend to ramble :P

2020.09.07 16:30 Army_Bot Summary For: Weekly Question Thread (8/31/2020 to 9/6/2020)

I have been working with my third recruiter currently for a few months. Got my packet put together and ready to go about a month ago. I call today to get an update on what's up with my paperwork and got told
"We are currently on stand by and not doing anything until recruiting command figures shit out"
Any recruiters verify this? Or will I need to move on to recruiter #4?

Can you use the GTCC to rent a U-Haul and do a PPM? I don't think I'm gonna have enough time for HHG to be picked up and do a partial DITY and I really don't wanna use $2,000 from savings for this if I don't have to.
Edit: I'm also tired and stressed as shit right now and the JTR is a bunch of nonsense put in PDF format.

I just failed out of RASP. I made it through all the physical punishment of cole range, but I failed land nav. I was ready to recycle and try again, however the 75th is overstaffed on 11 series so I was dropped. My question is where to go from here? I want to have a worthwhile career in the army, and do cool stuff. I know I’m pretty tough mentally and physically, but I’m feeling kinda lost right now.

Does Tricare report to your chain of command in this matter? I recently was taken to the ER while blackout drunk, during the transportation the police decided to initiate an involuntary mental health examination after I sobered up to determine if this was an attempt at self-harm since there was ibuprofen and zzzquil on a shelf.
At the ER I was given a paneling trying to determine if I had taken any drugs with the alcohol. All of the tests came back negative, no drugs or anything. Once I was coherent I was interviewed by a psychiatrist, and was determined that this ER visit was unnecessary and that there was no intention of harm to myself or others. I had no physical or mental disorder diagnoses or anything, no alcoholism, nothing. I was released and rescinded. This was literally a case of being taken to the ER for being too drunk.
Once Tricare gets this bill, how will this exist on my medical records? Will it get reported to my chain of command? At face value this doesn't look bad, but my main worry is the fact that I was involuntarily examined. Does this meet some criteria to be reported?
Also, for future PHA's will my care provider have access to this? Would their knowledge of this instigate a mandatory reporting to ASAP or BH?
Thanks.

I'm thinking about joining the Reserves as an officer. I run an online businesses that requires a few hours a week in ongoing maintenance. I'm planning to hand over day-to-day operations to someone else but I have no idea what time frame I should engage a contractor for.
Obviously I won't have one until I complete basic but I hear people are getting held while waiting for an OCS class for a long time. Would I have access to a computer then? Or would it not even matter because I wouldn't be able to store it securely?
Any guidance would be appreciated!

Hello everyone,
Context:
I was a Marine Corps reservist for 6 years and had a 5 year break in service. I'm joining the Army Reserve as a 12B and am looking at units in the Southern California.
Can some unit alumni or current members tell how it was with their unit?
Reason I'm asking here is because I know the recruiter won't really know what's going on in the individual units.
I was interested in:
305th Engineer Company (Clearance)
450th Engineering Platoon (AREA CLEARANCE)
350th Engineer Company (MOBILITY AUG)
Any information would be helpful.

Hello,
I am a High School student and am planning to become a lawyer. I want to be a federal judge in the future.
I am also interested in joining the JAG Corps after Law school. Would that be ok, if I want to eventually become a federal judge. Do many JAGs who are out of the military, then get federal clerkships? Or vice versa?
Please let me know if think joining the JAG corps would also hurt my chances of eventually become a federal judge.
Thank you

I reserved 68W and I’m going to keep bothering my recruiter to check for an option 4. I don’t want to go without it; will I have consequences for not shipping (I’ve heard from everyone except my recruiter that there are none)? Will an airborne tab land me in an airborne unit? Will an airborne tab or ranger tab increase my chance of being selected for special forces or ranger regiment? Will a 68w background significantly increase my chance of becoming an 18d?

Hi everyone,
Trying to decided between counterintelligence agent, human intelligence collector, and crypto linguist.
Background: Bachelor’s in psych, planning to enlist, looking to deploy/travel if possible. Hoping to do a career in the military and eventually go officer if I can.
I had been planning to enlist into Marines and go into the intel field. However, a lot of people have encouraged me to do Army intel instead. Took the ASVAB and qualify for all intel jobs and am meeting with the Army recruiter next week to look at options. The 35L MOS looks interesting, but so do the other intel jobs as well. Languages have always been an interest of mine too. Would love any input from those currently in or who have been in intel. If anyone also knows how Army intel compares to Marine I would love to hear your thoughts as well! If there’s any other Army MOS I should consider also please let me know.

Feeling very frustrated and discouraged. I was very excited at the opportunity to enlist but honestly I might just have to give up. I'm not really interested in lying to a recruiter or at MEPS.
Army or no army integrity and honesty means too much to me. If I disclose everything I'm supposed to disclose I'm going to have to get a waiver for voluntarily attending treatment for drug abuse, and for receiving treatment for depression, and hell maybe even for bad credit.
I'm no longer on medication of any kind and I've been abstinent from drugs for over 10 years and I have no criminal convictions. But everything I've been led to believe indicates they are looking for any reason to disqualify you because there's just tons of people waiting to get in.

Hi I hope this gets scene. I am looking to sign up for the military and got decent way in. I have to fill out the background check form and I see it has seizures in it which I did used to have. My recruiter tried telling me not to share that I had seizures. But the last thing I wanted was to be caught lying in a BG check esp when I need top clearance for 35M. He said that actually having seizures is an instant disqualification. But one of the other recruiters said before it wasn’t an instant disqualification. From what I read it SEEMS to be after 5 years of not having one you’re good to go which I well pass that. I’m just trying to know if it is actually a disqualifying thing or if I can sign up still if enough time has passed. And what can I do if it doesn’t disqualify me since that recruiter won’t let me in anymore or answer my calls? I have all the docs to back up how long and how my seizure free time has been.

I'm aware of what the best/least transferrable thread said, but it doesn't exactly give anyone much information.

(15 I started to seriously care about my health) Also i have perfect vision, and I could pass basic training fairly easily as of now. (Just to give you an idea of how fit I am)

I have an AS in cybersecurity and after covid hit i lost my job. I’m just scared of the commitment and the possible depression that service brings, but I’m open to any thoughts and criticism. I need a path and I need a goal, which is something I lack right now.

I was working with a recruiter, and he suggested that I go active duty enlisted and then put in a packet for OCS, instead of putting in a packet for OCS right away.

What would effect my chances of getting into that MOS besides the ASVAB? Also, does anyone know a good exercise regimen for getting in shape? I’ve been glued to the controller for a long time so I can’t say I’m all that athletic, and smoking doesn’t help. I’d rather have an easy time with the physically strenuous aspects of BCT so I can focus on other things.

Not that saving 2 years isn't insignificant, but other than that would there be any reason to do Green to Gold rather than just finishing my first 4 years of service, leaving, finishing the last 2 years of my bachelor's with the GI bill, then as a civilian go for a commission? I'm not sure if 2 years out of service will drop your rank, but everyone starts at O-1 anyway, right? I intend to go for Green to Gold, but I don't really have high hopes due to how competitive I hear it is.

So since there is hardly any recent information, can a 25D give me an example of day to day life? I'm aware of what the best/least transferrable thread said, but it doesn't exactly give anyone much information.

I’m in an aviation course in my high school that I can try for my pilots license at the end of senior year. That course is what got me interested in military and flight.
In case you want to know some background of me, I don’t have any criminal history and as far as medical, I have asthma but it hasn’t given me problems since i started living a healthier lifestyle. (15 I started to seriously care about my health) Also i have perfect vision, and I could pass basic training fairly easily as of now. (Just to give you an idea of how fit I am)

I have an AS in cybersecurity and after covid hit i lost my job. I have little experience and little direction in my life right now, and the military obviously would offer me many opportunities as well as further my career. I have many vet friends that have told me I should join. I love physical work, so wouldn’t mind boot camp, I’m mentally acute, and I’m strong.

Angry Update: 9/6 - 8:10PM

CAL FIRE Law Enforcement has determined the El Dorado Fire, burning near Oak Glen in San Bernardino County, was caused by a smoke generating pyrotechnic device, used during a gender reveal party. The fire began at 10:23 am on September 5, 2020 in the El Dorado Ranch Park in Yucaipa. The fire spread from the park to the north on to Yucaipa Ridge that separates Mountain Home Village and Forest Falls from the City of Yucaipa.
I shouldn't be getting emotional here, but I think I'm going to have a conniption.

EVACUATION UPDATE: 9/8 - 9:00PM

New Evacuation Warning is in effect as of 9 pm Sept 8th from Oak Glen Rd to Hwy 38 West of Bryant to Garnet. Evacuation routes via Hwy 38 West or Bryant St. South. There is a potential threat to life and/or property Those who require additional time to evacuate, and those with pets and livestock should leave now. @CALFIREBDU @SanBernardinoNF @SBCOUNTYFIRE @CityofYucaipa
https://twitter.com/sbcountysheriff/status/1303542628185600000?s=21

Note: we drove around yucaipa and Calimesa and it is not clear what is going on. We saw no fire crews or emergency vehicles nor did we see any fires (doesn't mean they're not there but this doesn't seem warranting the emergency evac warning we received). It's growing clear by the responses on twitter that the "unified response" team is dropping the ball on key clear communication.

Personal note: Since containment is up to 17% now and intensity had mostly died down (but not the fires yet) I'm going to decrease my posting frequency further. Please message me directly if you want me to get back more involved. Otherwise, we have a business that we are building and, as much as I love the intensity of a crisis, I need a bit of a break. I'll try to keep posting major info and, at a minimum, the daily updates from the county so that those who don't have access to other platforms can find it here. Thank you for following along and I hope you've stayed safe and low stress.

Update: 9/11 - 4:05PM

ElDoradoFire Still under an evacuation order in #Yucaipa is the neighborhood bordered by Bryant St. on the west, Carter St on the south, Jefferson St. on the east, and Highway 38 to the north. Angelus Oaks, Forest Falls, and Mountain Home Village remain under an evacuation order

Update: 9/12 - 11:15AM

Official update docs: https://imgur.com/gallery/ibPCG4V
Source: https://twitter.com/sanbernardinonf/status/1304843858384019456?s=21
Summary: good headway has been made with tackling the fire. However it's still ongoing and dry, hot conditions present problems. PLEASE SEE THE EVACUATION ORDERS to check if your area is still under the order (for your own safety and to stay out of the way of the fire crews). It's too much for me to copy here.
Have a good Saturday all!
